Mark your calendar October 3-5, 2008, for the International Martial Arts Symposium. It will be held at the Downtown Columbia Marriott Hotel. We will continue our early registration process. A deposit of $75.00 will hold your price of $250.00. There is a benefit to making an early decision. There will be two ways to register and it is easy to do. You can download the brochure and registration form and mail in it. Or you can register directly online.

New Media

Check out the media section. We have added a short video of sweeps from this year’s Symposium. It takes a few moments to come up, so be patient. I think you will enjoy it. Tommy Hood and Robert Taylor are demonstrating. If you turn up the volume, you can hear the instruction.

Soon we will add 1-15 kihons. So keep checking in.

Site Launched

The new version of www.shurite.com is now up. We are still working on getting everything working correctly as well as getting content published in all the sections. This first site update / blog post will briefly go over the new features of the site and what you can expect to see in the weeks to come as we continue to update and add to the site.

We have tested and optimized the website for the following web browsers - Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and we will be doing the same for Safari as well. Our recommended browser for PC users is Firefox.

Here is a breakdown of all the sections within the site with a brief description of each.

Home - The home page acts as a news section where you will be able to find the latest news and updates. For those of you familiar with blogs it act just as a blog does.
About - The about section features general information about the karate school along with information on Shuri Ryu and some other related content.
Media - The media gallery is divided into two main sections 1) Picture Gallery 2) Video Gallery. As the site grows each will expand to hold a larger amount of items that can be easily accessed and viewed over the web.
Events - The new events section will hold all upcoming events and allow users to submit upcoming events. It lists them in chronological order and each can be expanded on the same page to view more information. Once an event has passed it will automatically leave the events page so only relevant content will stay active.
Forums - The forums are a message board where people can go to have discussions, ask questions, and just about anything else. They require a short registration that can be done very quickly. It is highly recommended that you register for the forums since they will be a very good source for getting information and help.
Store - The store will be one of the last things to become completely active. Once it is up you will be able to purchase Shuri Ryu related items such as books and also possibly pay for events.
Links - Very simple section with a list of various links to resources.
Search - Once a lot of content becomes available the search function will allow you to quickly find certain items.
Resources - This section will feature sections of resources and help items related to martial arts. Some of these may be password protected and only available to certain ranks.
Contact - (located at the bottom) Contains Contact information
Newsletter - (located at the bottom) Sign up for the newsletter here
